TRANSFORMING SOCIETY FUND – OCTOBER 2025 IMPACT UPDATE: Restoring Dignity, Creating Livelihoods – Usapho Indlu’s Men’s Programme

Nov 11, 2025 | 0 comments

Dear Friends,

This month, we celebrate the incredible progress of the Men’s Livelihood Programme run by Usapho Indlu, one of the Transforming Society Fund’s partner initiatives.

Through your giving, we’ve seen men in the community rediscover purpose, build skills, and take steps toward sustainable, dignified work.

Transforming Men, Transforming Families

Usapho Indlu identified a deep need among men and young male adults in the communities they serve — unemployment, loss of identity, and a lack of self-worth had left many without direction.

To change this, they selected 10 unemployed men from the community and created a year-long programme focused not only on skills training but also on spiritual and emotional restoration.

Each participant is mentored by Sizwe Giyo, who leads the group through practical and faith-based growth.

Programme Highlights

  • Holistic Development:

Weekly Bible studies, “Fathers Matter” sessions (a Heartlines initiative), and workshops on gender-based violence and responsible living.

  • Skills & Training:

Hands-on training in landscaping, woodwork, plumbing, and tailor-making, with Me and My Money financial training scheduled for November.

  • Faith and Identity:

The men are being restored in their identity, self-worth, and confidence to take up their role as leaders in their homes and communities.

  • Entrepreneurship & Sustainability:

From October, Transforming Society Fund support has made it possible to equip each man to start a home-based business — purchasing their own tools and equipment as they grow.

A Story of Transformation

Nkululeka, age 26, joined the group in January this year.

When he arrived, he was in a wheelchair, suffering from TB of the spine, weak and discouraged. Through prayer, care, and daily nutritious meals, he regained strength — and now walks with only one stick.

His dream is to sew. With training from a local clothing factory and a sewing machine provided through the programme, he already has orders for local school uniforms.

His most treasured possession? The Bible he received from Usapho Indlu.

Gratitude

“This has been a long road, but I am confident that our men are now ready to commit to creating their own sustainable businesses from home. With the support of mentors and local businesses, they will become established members of their community.”
