Honour the Process in pursuit of the outcome
Sally and Andy had the privilege of attending the Greenlight Conference in Cape Town in June.
The team at Greenlight were incredibly professional and had organised an unbelievable line-up of speakers over the two days. Not only were we inspired to start with transforming ourselves in this journey we have chosen to go on with Usapho Indlu, but we were encouraged that we are on the right road.
We were reminded of some crucial principles such as planning for mindset change and not just program planning.
People such as Tina Mason and Laura Bergh from Greenlight, Tracey Chambers and Zani Lamb from Taking Care of Business, Kate Groch from the Good Work Foundation, Tracey Kotzen from the Mental Wellness Initiative, Emily Rudolph from Amathuba Collective, Bronwen Bainbridge from the Go Group, Rob Jones from MacCare and many more all inspired with their experience and knowledge.
Sharing with people who are on the same journey in a slightly different setting, we were able to learn from others while sharing our insights. We were challenged to aim for sustainable and durable social change with a trauma informed based care. We will strive to work with partners not to steal participant’s “I can” moments but rather to empower participants through data-driven programs based on individuals’ narratives.
Anne Timms, one of our partners and a delegate at the conference, put it so well when she said: “..while data informs, it is human connection that transforms…We don’t change the world alone. We do it shoulder-to-shoulder, mind-to-mind and heart-to-heart…Greenlight is more than a survey. It’s a movement. A mirror. A catalyst. It’s about unlocking the stories behind the data and creating a roadmap from being stuck to living with dignity.”
