What is your favourite Christmas tradition? Games? Good food? Spending time with family and friends? Well, all those were part of the annual Usapho Indlu Christmas party which was held on Saturday, 10 December.
The morning started with some fruit and cooldrinks for the 30 kids and teens who could not wait for the day’s proceedings to get started. And start it did…with a drawing exercise. Sounds nice and relaxed, doesn’t it? Only this one had a twist…the paper the children drew on was perched on their heads. Laughter rang throughout Pastor Oscar’s church in Thembalethu as everyone tried to draw their best version of a Christmas tree without seeing where their branches and decorations were actually being put.
This creative exercise was followed by joyful mayhem as each child ran around to pop everyone else’s balloons whilst protecting the balloon tied around their own ankle. And for the more flexible, climbing through hula hoops as four hoops made their way around a human circle was a breeze. The last game of the morning, musical chairs, also proved a competitive albeit favourite activity for everyone.
Then it was time for Natalie, and her adorable helpers, to share the Christmas story (and songs) before two young ladies, Somila and Chuma shared their testimony. Both young women shared their gratefulness towards God, and His helpers, for everything He had done for them throughout the year.
Before Santa and his elves arrived, it was lunchtime…delicious KFC! When Father Christmas pulled up in his red car (keeping up with the times), the children shouted with glee as they knew it was time for each of them to receive their personalised giftbag filled with presents. Aunty Sally’s heart is that every child grasps how worthy they are by receiving unique and new possessions bought for them specifically.
