It was a wet and cold July morning in Thembalethu but a team from Door of Hope braved the elements and set up their eye testing stations in Holy Trinity Church on 34th Street. Two of the team had travelled from as far as the USA.
A large group consisting of 52 adults and children had their eyes tested of which 42 required glasses. All those who needed glasses paid a small fee as we encourage ownership and dignity, not handouts.
Carey, from the USA, shared her testimony and people were moved by the fact that she had taken two straight days of travelling to get to Thembalethu to help test eyes. Alex spoke about El Roi – the God who sees. There was clapping and tears of joy, there was dancing and some good fellowship during this outreach. What a witness the Door of Hope team was and how much joy they brought to Thembalethu.
We look forward to hearing how the spectacles have changed people’s lives.
