As the year has progressed, we have made enormous progress in our school food garden at Dellville Park Primary School, George.
Learners come to the garden for a weekly lesson in growing your own food. This includes compost-making, knowing more about healthy soil, caring for our worm farms, planting, weeding, mulching and fertilizing our vegetable beds.
Through the year we have also planted fruit trees and, more recently, a small grove of macadamia nut trees.
We also study nutrition, the lifecycle of worms and other creatures, as well as how to harvest rain water. This is teaching our youth how to care for this beautiful world that God has created for us to enjoy. And then, after several months, we begin to harvest the food, clean the vegetables and deliver them to the school kitchen which prepares 500 meals per day for learners at the school.

This project has had a significant impact on the school and the learners, and brings so much fun, outdoor activity and excitement to their education on a weekly basis.
We are committed to bringing change in the area of food security through this kind of hands-on learning. It is for life and it is knowledge that is both practical and permanent.

Thank you to the many sponsors who have come alongside us to enhance this programme.
